Known Problems :

The following is a list of known problems you may encounter when using AIM Advantage 3.1.0:

  • MS OFFICE MACRO SECURITY SETTINGS...To assure trouble free operation of method materials, the macro security settings associated with MS Word and MS Excel must be modified.  During product installation, the Microsoft install program establishes all MS Office components with the maximum security setting enabled.  The affect of this setting is to prohibit the execution of any macro code instructions embedded in either an MS Word document or MS Excel workbook.  Because method materials use extensive macro code, the MS Office security level options must be adjusted prior to utilizing the method pack.
To adjust the security level for MS Word 2000 (or greater), start Word and navigate to Tools > Macro > Security… Click on the Security Level tab and select the Medium radio button option. This option allows you to choose whether or not to execute macro code instructions.  Exactly the same procedure must be performed with MS Excel to enable the operation of workbook macro codes. Resetting these options assures the operation of our method materials without jeopardizing the built-in security features of MS Office.
  • CONFIGURING INTERNET EXPLORER (IE) TO OPEN DELIVERABLE TEMPLATES IN THE APPROPRIATE OFFICE PROGRAM... Unlike Netscape, Internet Explorer's default settings cause deliverable templates to be displayed within the browser, when they are selected via the links on the method pack home page.  To configure Internet Explorer to open deliverable templates in the appropriate Office program, do the following:
    1. Open My Computer
    2. On the Tools menu (or View  menu), click Folder Options (or click Options)
    3. Click on the File Types tab
    4. In the Registered Files types list, click the specific Office document type (for example Microsoft Word Document) and then click Advanced (or click Edit)
    5. In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to clear the "Browse in same window" checkbox (or click to clear the "Open Web documents in place" check box)
    6. Click OK
To take full advantage of the method pack's deliverable template functionality, including use of the OM menu when editing deliverable templates, you should use the "File"+"Save As" menu option to save a copy of the deliverable template to a directory on your computer (other than under C:\METHOD).  You can then open the saved file, using MS Word, for editing.

Note: See the Deliverable Template User's Guide, accessible from the Method Navigation window on the AIM Advantage 3.1.0 home page, for more information regarding the OM menu options.
  • POPUP BLOCKER MAY PREVENT LINKS AND DROP DOWN MENU ITEMS FROM WORKING PROPERLY... The Popup  Blocker included with Windows XP versions of Internet Explorer may impede the proper functioning of links and drop down menu items included in the method pack.  If a link or drop down menu item on the method pack home page fails to work properly  on your Windows XP machine, check for the popup toolbar at the top of the page.  Click the popup toolbar to remove the block and allow the link, or drop down menu item to function properly (for that one time).  Alternatively, you may inactivate the popup blocker, when using the method pack as follows:
    • Launch Internet Explorer
    • Select "Tools" + "Internet Options" from the IE drop down menu
    • Select the Advanced Tab
    • Scroll down to the Security Settings
    • Select the check box next  to the "Allow Active Content to Run in Files on my Computer" item, to disable the popup blocker.
Note: You should consider reactivating the popup blocker after using the method pack, and before browsing the internet again.
  • MICROSOFT WORD DELIVERABLE TEMPLATE READ-ONLY WARNING...Microsoft Word deliverable templates are defined for read-only access in order to prevent you from accidentally making changes to the base deliverable template files. Use the "File"+"Save As" option to save a copy of the deliverable template to a directory on your computer other than under C:\METHOD.

Note: You will see a Microsoft read-only warning, if you choose to "Save" the Microsoft Word deliverable template rather than "Save As".

  • NETSCAPE USERS MAY NEED TO MODIFY PREFERENCES...While using AIM 3.1.0 you may encounter a Netscape message asking you whether you want to open a file or save the file to disk. You should select "Open it", and de-select the "ask me before opening..." checkbox.
  • MOVING THE MASS CHANGES DIALOG BOX RESULTS IN BLANKED OUT SCREEN...If you use the Mass Changes function available for deliverable templates associated with Microsoft Word, please be aware that moving the Mass Changes dialog box to another location on the screen will result in blanking out of the uncovered portions of the screen. You will not be able to view the document. To view the document press the Cancel button in the Mass Changes dialog box.
